Are you feeling trapped? Are you feeling weighed down? Cast your cares on to the lord. Ask him to set you free from the trap you fell into. He will pull you out. He will destroy the traps of your sin. You just have to trust Him. Fix your eyes on Him.     “My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭25:15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

There is an inspiring anecdote about two men who were boating on a foaming river. The two, however, were not very experienced and somehow they did not steer their boat properly. At one point, they took a few wrong turns and landed on a tributary and lost complete control. They were now being swept to a roaring waterfall and were in danger of losing their lives. But, there was hope. A man on the shore saw their desperate plight and got out a rope and threw it to the struggling friends. The first one grabbed the rope and was pulled to safety. But, just as the second man was about to grab the rope, a tree trunk floated by and that seemed to provide more security than the rope that was attached to the shore. The man made his decision. He jumped to the tree trunk, but he had made a deadly mistake. Only minutes later the screaming man disappeared with his tree trunk over the edge of the waterfallContinue reading »

“The star which they had observed at its rising went ahead of them until it came to a standstill over the place where the child was . . . They prostrated themselves and did him homage” – Matthew 2:9-11 The Gospel of Matthew tells us of the first Epiphany, the visitation of the three “wise men” to Mary and her child. Long before the day took on the aura of a religious observance and became known as “little Christmas” and long before it became the last of the beloved “12 Days of Christmas” there was a greater meaning to this visit. Matthew speaks of Jesus being born in Bethlehem, with no manger or shepherds. These details are found in the Gospel of Luke and speak to his, gentile, readers. Matthew, through his recording of the words and deeds of Jesus, presents Jesus as the fulfillment of Scripture and the ultimate teacher, rabbi, or wise man. Therefore, it is important, for Matthew, to have wise men from the mysterious East payContinue reading »

Hearts are emboldened with the knowledge that God is ever present and help in times of peace and war. Every season is the season for the presence of the Lord. History is replete with accounts of laudable and heroic actions by brave soldiers at all levels of military service. Their numerous sacrifices shouldn’t ever be lightly esteemed for they give for the good of nations. Countless lives were lost in war; scores of men and women returned without limbs; with little hope, mental instabilities and major uncertainties. Our love swells for what the soldiers gave and for what military personnel continue to give of themselves for common and beneficial causes. I remember, with deep admiration, former NFL player Pat Tillman. In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on America, he forsook a $3.6 million contract to become an Army Ranger. Do we not marvel at Tillman’s patriotism and dedication to a worthier pursuit than money?! Resources inform us of the various soldiers who greatly contributed to warContinue reading »

Are we able to count the advantages of praise? How refreshing to know that God inhabits the praises of His people. When we lift our holy hands in adoration to the most High, our spirits lift in the exercises as we extol the magnificence of our Lord. Gratitude swells within us as we revel in the joys of praise. It’s a certainty that our praises are never vain in practice when we go before our Father in sincerity and in truth. He delights in our worship and rewards our love and holy movements upward to His blessed presence. What do we do when we don’t know how to proceed? Among other things, we offer God sacrifices of praise. We release our sorrows and do as our Lord tells us — rest in Him because He calls us to cast all our cares upon Him for indeed He cares. We praise God when we know and we praise Him when we don’t know. In season and out of season, we blessContinue reading »

Precious senior citizens are certainly assets. They add such richness to families, communities, workplaces and elsewhere. Theirs is a vast wealth of wisdom and knowledge plentifully loaded with benefits. Stories weaved by senior level beauties are genuine gems that attach themselves to the corridors of our hearts. Doses of experience and humor pour from the traveled chambers of the elderly and mature. Captive audiences lean in to breathe in the lessons generously deposited into our eager ears. Wow, the history that they weave and spin throughout the atmosphere. Triumphs and tragedies — dips and rises — so interesting — we’re captivated. Oh, we so value the contributions of seniors. Golden touches from them teach, encourage, discipline and remind that hope is indeed a certain reality. They bring to “tables” the gainful attributes of maturity, awareness and patience. Truly, our planet is better because of the placement of seniors. Quality living is here for us to observe and to use as positive examples. I cannot imagine thriving without the presence ofContinue reading »
