I saw her across the room I immediately began to pray God, please, let this be her I didn’t know her name Or if she had arrived with Someone else on her arm I only knew I needed to seize The moment before It passed by A long story short We wed several months later And she was the most Beautiful bride I’d seen Ever The envy of my friends The Queen of the Prom The joy of my life… All in one Perfect Until one day A terrible crash Lights of the ambulance Flashed Paralyzed from The waist down Scarred features On her face She barely spoke For a while As I wondered What to do No one envied me Or spoke of her beauty Some stopped visiting Or even bothering To call I could see it In her eyes The fear The sadness Her hope in us Was gone Dear Lord What am I supposed to do A fairy tale no more Some suggest I leave her ToContinue reading »

Scores of folks gathered to witness the Olympic athletes compete. Some of the competitors have stories of courage and perseverance that testify of their faith and grit. Yes, stories of determination and steadfast stances not to quit. I think back to the 1996 Olympics when American gymnast Keri Strug injured her ankle. Her limp revealed to the world audience that she was in pain. What did she do? She bravely stayed in the competition, got on that vault and obtained a score high enough to secure the gold medal win for the team. Her coach carried her to the medal stand to join her team members. The courageous act of Keri was one of the certain highlights at the Olympics that year! The apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 9:24 – KJV, “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that you might obtain.” Throughout his writings, we note the courage of Paul in the midst of numerous boutsContinue reading »

How inspiring it is to read, in the Bible, assorted accounts of courage. Great reading indeed. Of course, one of the all time favorites is what we read about the showdown between David and Goliath. From a natural standpoint, the odds were against David. Goliath disdained him. Yes, he underestimated the small in stature young man. Obviously, Goliath had more in height and in his experience as a warrior. David, though, had power from Almighty God, who no foe can defeat. David was confident that he’d gain victory over his giant foe. The lad, David, was certain that he had, in his spiritual arsenal, the ultimate reinforcement. How impressive is it that he hasted and ran toward his enemy – 1 Samuel 17:48- KJV? David didn’t hesitate, cower or retreat. He went full throttle to handle the business of his God. Goliath uttered threatening declarations about his perceived triumphant posture. Yes, he talked the talk, but the Lord saw to it that he didn’t “deliver the goods.” David was theContinue reading »

I need a moment to think. I need a moment to consider. I am a Christian. What do I have to surrender? The money in my account is my own. I have worked too hard to give someone a loan. The car I drive is a classic. New paint. No scratches. Good deal. Need a ride? Who’s asking? My home is top on the market. Cobblestone driveway New appliances. Swimming pool. Video entertainment system. For me, not you. Everything I have God has given to me I am a blessed man. Most envied in the land. So why do they question me So why do they judge I’m going to Heaven And you are not

The sunshine comes out everyday The sky is always blue The clouds stay away There is no sign of rain The roads are always clear The traffic kept at bay Every light stays green Nothing bad will ever happen to you Or me The doctor says we’re in good health The kids stay well behaved They all excel in school College is already paid Absent are the days of Earthquakes, tornadoes And hurricanes Smooth sailing for The rest of our days I bow to one knee As you take this ring Only for the Better For the Worse? No… Things will never change

Likely, we all know of or have been involved in scenarios, particularly between two people, that take on the form of blame being tossed back and forth. Yes, the blame game with involved parties “justifying” why the issues of contention aren’t “my fault.” Some folks typically have the posture of them, in their estimation, being “pure as the driven snow” while, to them, others are usually the culprits of what has caused friction. Such accusatory and unreasonably judgmental folks add to the problems rather than to the solutions. On the other hand, people who fairly assess and acknowledge their roles in the malfunctions succeed in helping in the solution processes if they proceed with amendments relative to where they went awry. Of course, there are occasions when indeed others are responsible for the conflicts which arose/arise. And such folks are sometimes the very ones who unjustly place blame on us where such isn’t suitably placed. The Lord gives guidance in how to handle such matters. In the Bible, in 2Continue reading »

We’ve learned about the assorted experiences of people who we so admire for pressing on despite uncertainties and challenges. Yes, there are many brave and determined folks who press on in the midst of varied circumstances. There are marital issues, job issues, neighborhood issues, financial issues, as well as security issues. God teaches us how to best press on — to trust the Lord — to seek the Lord for the help that we need to continue. It’s such an enormous relief to know that we aren’t alone in our trials. The love and comfort of God are gratefully welcomed. Yes, a present help in the times of our needs. Life’s occurrences cannot “swallow” us if we keep ourselves anchored, rooted and grounded in the blessed assurances provided by the Lord. Nothing is too hard for God. We can rest in that awareness, and encourage others about that truth. People providing for one another is essential. Surely, God created us to enjoy fruitful relationships, and to gain from those connections.Continue reading »

Alrighty now — we’re at another beginning. Super love extends to our Lord with gratitude galore for how far we’ve come and how we were here to welcome in the year 2016. We have much to look forward to as we approach new days, new spiritual and physical seasons, pleasantries, rewards and challenges. Indeed, jubilation is in order for the manifold wonders of God, and how we live according to pure precepts. Certainly, the joy of the Lord is our strength and assurance. Leviticus 25:12 – KJV For it is the jubilee; it shall be holy unto you: ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field.
