Your Kingdom Come

Your Kingdom Come

Sometimes it looks like the whole world has gone insane. The newspapers are full of news, but it’s mostly bad. Hatred, greed and selfishness seem to be the rulers of this world and many people try to hide in holes of deep discouragement.
Where is it all going to? And is there hope?
Of course there’s hope. The future is as bright as the promises of God and according to the Bible, our future couldn’t be any better.

When the Puritan leader John Owen was dying, his secretary was writing a last letter on his behalf. The man began his letter with the words, “Today, I am still in the land of the living, but…” John Owen motioned to him that that was not at all what he wanted to say. He motioned for the secretary to carefully listen to him and then he whispered, “Write this. Today I am still in the land of the dead, but soon I will cross the threshold and I will step into the land of the living.”
Faith sees with different eyes than the world. But it sure helps to know the difference.

Every day, and everywhere in the world, people are praying the Lord’s Prayer. It doesn’t matter what colour people are, what nationality they have and whether they are rich or poor. In God’s Kingdom we are all united by God’s love.
Think of it. That one prayer that Jesus taught His disciples is being prayed by millions of people. What a beautiful thought and how it should unite the Christian world.
Of course there is always the danger that prayers that are taught can become somewhat familiar. After you said it a few times, you know the words well and can say them without even thinking about the meaning.
Therefore it is good to think about the power of that wonderful, all-encompassing prayer that Jesus gave us in the Bible. Take some time to meditate upon the beautiful words Jesus gave us, and learn from them.
Our Father in Heaven…Your Kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Do we actually realise that the Kingdom of God is really going to come? Not only in the hearts of believing people, but as a literal Kingdom in which we live and move. Sometimes we can get so discouraged with the world around us. Its darkness seems overwhelming. Men’s greed seems to know no bounds and violence is covering the earth.
Lord, do you see what’s happening? Yes, He does. He knows, He loves and cares. This world is not always going to stay this dark. God’s Kingdom is going to come, with Jesus as the King of Kings who is ruling over all. And all God’s children, who have given their hearts to the King, are going to be part of it.
Eye hath not seen, nor hath ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things that God has in store for them that love Him. Yes, today there may be some pain. Today there may be a little sorrow and suffering, but tomorrow the world shall be free and we will all join hands in the Kingdom with the everlasting shores.
When? When is it going to happen?
Only God knows. But the Bible encourages us to have faith and to be patient. For the suffering of this present time is not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed in us.
The Kingdom of God is coming and on that day shall also the will of God be performed on earth, just as it is already being done today in Heaven. And how is God’s will being done in Heaven today? It’s done right away; without arguments, without rebellion.
That’s our future. Everything will revolve around goodness and happiness. People will not strive to be rich, but they will strive to be good. What a difference with this present world. What a glorious future is awaiting us.
In a way we already live in the Kingdom of God today in the Spirit. We’ve got a little bit of that eternal peace in our hearts, because Jesus lives within us. It’s a good beginning, but it’s only that, a beginning. It’s going to be lots better.
The Bible teaches us about a period that will follow directly after the second coming of Christ on earth; a period that is commonly known as the Millennium. A thousand year reign of Jesus here on earth, with peace and justice for all. It’s the time of which the prophet Isaiah spoke in Isaiah 11.

“And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little boy will lead them. Also the cow and the bear will graze, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.…”

In those days, the Kingdom of God will not just be inside of us, but it will be everywhere around us. God’s love shall cover the earth as the waters cover the sea and you will be a part of it. You, as a child of the King, will enjoy the unspoken wonders of God in the time to come.
That is reason enough to be thankful and happy, and it can give you the courage to make it through yet another day, for soon the Lord’s Prayer will be totally fulfilled.
