Rahab was a prostitute but believed in God. When the two spies came to Jericho, she immediately put her faith in action, sheltering them and allowing them to escape unharmed.
In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? James 2:25 (NIV)
So instead of professing faith only, she showed off her faith by helping God’s men. If she says, I believe, but is then afraid to help the spies, she repudiates the faith she just professed. If you believe God, you must act like it. She believed God would deliver her and her household when everyone else was lost.
I am as guilty as anyone of asking God to help me, but then I act like I don’t believe He will. For example, one morning I asked God to heal my foot. For some reason, I was having trouble walking on it. After my prayer time, I got up and limped to my dresser for some clothes, and God said, “You asked me to heal your foot, so why are you still limping?” Guess what? I stopped limping and my foot felt fine!
Here is an example of how God rewards faithfulness. My daughter was set to go to Europe with her school group, but at the same time youth camp was going on, which she also wanted to attend. The youth leaders chose the third and last week of camp to allow as much time as possible, but unless the final trip date (which was not set in stone at the time) got changed, she wasn’t going to make it. One morning I was praying for that and God said, “sign her up and pay for it.” Gulp!
Well, long story short, I told the youth leader to sign her up. Shortly thereafter we attended one of the final meetings before the trip where she received her official itinerary showing that she would be returning from Europe two days before camp! Needless to say, we were both trying not to flip out and missed the first few minutes of the meeting. God is faithful. All I had to do was say she was going and He made it so.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)
God wants to bless you. He wants to answer your prayers, but you must believe He can do what He says He can and will do. Open our eyes, Lord, we want see You. Erase our doubts, Lord, we want to hear You. Cleanse our spirit, Lord, we want to serve You. If you ask God for something, believe He will do it! All it takes is a mustard seed to move a mountain.
