Three hundred years before Christ was born, Plato the Greek
scholar, predicted an event:
“That if ever the Truly Good Man were to appear, the Man who would tell
the Truth, that man (He) would have his eyes gouged out and in the end be
crucified” ~~~Plato the Grecian
Philosopher 347 B.C.
Well, ‘that man’ did appear telling the world, “I am the Truth, the Life and the Way”
and as Plato foresaw, that Man was crucified. However, Jesus is more that just
a good man. He’s the human-divine Son of God born of the Virgin Mary; the great
High Priest who intercedes for His people at the right hand of God; founder of
the Christian church and central figure of the human race.
To be sure, God’s best intention for humanity is Jesus. He
is the perfect God-man, who willingly took our sins upon Himself and
experienced divine wrath in our place.
Indeed, God accepted His death as full payment for our sins, and He
raised Jesus from the dead to a position of divine glory (Ephesians 1:20). His Holy
Spirit now lives within all believers.
Irrevocably, Christ went to the cross in order to reconcile
us to God. He suffered a painful death on our behalf and through His atonement
our sin debt has been paid. Because He conquered death, hell and the grave, it
cleared a way for us to everlastingly dwell in heaven with Him someday.
Oh, Father God, I ask that You hear our prayers. Deeply embed within
our hearts that everyone—even the worst of sinners—can become a child of
Yours and experience the richness of Your love. No one is beyond your reach
because You save to the uttermost. Thank You dear Lord for sending the ‘truly
good and godly man’ to redeem us, making eternal life possible. Without You, we
are forever lost. Amen.
